This year, the NHL on ESPN is broadcasting thirty-four games throughout the months of the regular season. This is the same number of games that the worldwide leader in sports aired last year, but compared to the first season of this contract in the 2021-2022 season, this is a massive increase from the nine games aired that year.

Unlike previous years, this year ESPN seems to be going for quantity with the amount of nights the NHL is aired over doubleheaders. Most nights for the NHL on ESPN involve a single game, instead of the typical doubleheader we have been accustomed to in the past.
The upcoming President’s Day doubleheader in February, involving the Maple Leafs-Blues and Red Wings-Kraken is a new addition to the ESPN schedule, along with having an occasional game on Sunday, Monday, and Friday nights.
As of December 17th, NHL on ESPN is averaging 546,000 viewers, which is up 33% vs. the same point in the 2022-2023 season. With many more games to come on the network, we will see how the viewership shapes up at the season’s end.
