The Detroit Red Wings have shown some significant improvements on the ice throughout this NHL season, and in correlation, their viewership on television has returned to prominence once again. Outside of ESPN’s and TNT’s opening night doubleheaders, the Red Wings have accounted for the three most-viewed games for the 2023-2024 NHL season.
The most-viewed of these is the November 29th matchup against the Rangers, which averaged 757,000 viewers on TNT.
In addition, the Wings’ second-week matchup against the Penguins averaged 699,000 viewers on TNT.
Lastly, this Tuesday’s game against the Blues averaged 626,000 viewers on ESPN.
In total, the Red Wings have had four nationally televised games so far this season with an average of 654,000 viewers per game (the other game not mentioned was between the Rangers on Election Day, which averaged 532K viewers on TNT), which makes them the most-watched NHL team throughout the first two months of the season.
Future Red Wings games on national television (not including exclusive games on ESPN+ and Hulu) include the following:
February 19th, 2024 (Presidents’ Day): 3:30 p.m. ET, Red Wings vs Kraken – ESPN
February 24th, 2024 (Saturday): 12:00 p.m. ET, Blues vs Red Wings – ABC
March 6th, 2024 (Wednesday): 9:30 p.m. ET, Red Wings vs Avalanche – TNT
April 7th, 2024 (Sunday): 1:00 p.m. ET, Red Wings vs Sabres – TNT
April 9th, 2024 (Tuesday): 7:00 p.m. ET, Capitals vs Red Wings – ESPN
As the 2023-2024 NHL season continues to play out, there is one thing for certain, and that is the fact that the Red Wings are once again drawing numbers on television.
